  1. These are my people! Their daughter Ida Frances Dutton Dillard is my great grandmother!

    1. Great! Pleased to meet you! Did you know this connection for James A.?

To tell the truth, I don’t have documentation that he was adopted or that his original name was Yocum. Somebody told me this years ago and I will have to dig to find the reference. Does he have any direct male-line descendants living? I would be curious to see what their Y-DNA showed.

      1. Ha! I’m just reading your reply from 5 years ago! Haven’t heard he was adopted. I have the original announcement from his funeral service. I’ll have to dig. Edmund Dutton was on the Lawrence AL Census in 1830, along with Jarrard Dutton, who married Charity McDaniel. Was one of those guys his grandfather? Wonder about adoption. I’m sure you know this census info already. ;D

      2. I am a descendant of James Alexander Dutton and was always told by my grandmother (his granddaughter) that he was adopted and that his name was Yocum. She thought that he was a relation of the Dutton family but was not sure how. I would love to know who his parents were… a mysterious DNA origin showed up for me in a percentage that would match one of his parents.
